Police are appealing for information following an assault on Eastbank Street, Southport, on Friday, 30 July.

At around 5.40pm it was reported that males were fighting in the Sporting Jester Inn pub.

It was reported that a man was attacked with a glass by a male suspect. The suspect was further reported to have thrown glasses at the victim and hit him with a chair.

The suspect was reported to have fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

Emergency services attended and the victim received treatment for a non-life-threatening head injury.

CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out and police are asking anyone with any further information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “This was an appalling incident leaving a man injured, fortunately not more seriously.

“After a long and difficult lockdown we want to make sure that people can enjoy themselves in our pubs across Merseyside without incidents such as this and we will do all we can to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you were in the Sporting Jester Pub on Friday and witnessed the altercation or have any further information then please come forward, either directly or anonymously, as information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.

“We know that Eastbank Street was busy on Friday evening so if you were in the area and have mobile phone or dashcam footage which may have captured anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know. Where we receive information well take action.”
