Coastal Road Southport closed at Formby by pass junction after motorcyclist seriously injured

A motorcyclist has been injured and the Air Ambulance landed in a field near by . The road is expected to be closed for several hours

A spokesperson from the North West Ambulance Service said: "A man in his 50s was airlifted to hospital following an RTC involving motorcyclist

"At around 1.30pm officers were called to a report of a collision involving a grey and white Toyota and a blue Honda motorbike. The man who was riding the motorbike was taken to hospital via helicopter with serious injuries.

"The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries. Coastal Road is closed whilst emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are being asked to avoid the area."

Roads policing unit have Tweeted the following.

Coastal Road between A565 Formby Bypass and Pinfold Lane, Ainsdale, is currently closed due to a collision. We are unsure how long it will remain closed at this time.  Thank you for your patience.
