Council confirm new home owners in West Lancs must purchase bins says Rosie Cooper MP

West Lancashire Borough Council have confirmed that they require anyone moving into new build homes to purchase their bins for £25 each or £100 altogether.

Rosie Cooper MP said:
“What an astonishing policy! Do the council really think it is right to add this cost on to people who could be in the financially difficult position of purchasing their first home?

“Purchasers of newly built homes would justifiably expect their first bin to be included in their council tax. I appreciate that the Government have consistently cut council funding, but this is a relatively small cost to the council but could be huge for new owners, including first time buyers.

“The council are trying to shift this responsibility on to the developers, but they have no obligation to pay for the bins.

“They could make it a planning requirement for developers to purchase the bins, or they could give newly built homes free bins!

“It is really disappointing that instead the Council choose to burden people buying new homes with an extra cost!”
