Lifeboat rescue 36ft yacht in difficulty off the coast of Southport.

The Southport Lifeboat was paged by Holyhead Coastguard to assist a 36ft yacht in difficulty off the coast of Southport.

Arctic 24 lifeboat, the Heather White, was launched and took the casualty vessel under tow towards the River Mersey.

The RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station crew were tasked to take over the tow for the second leg of the journey from the Mersey back to Liverpool.

The two crews met just outside the river and the tow was transferred from the Southport to the Hoylake Lifeboat.

Due to the danger of being blown onto the shore, the Southport Lifeboat then stoodby and escorted the tow into the busy channel and to the calmer waters.

As the conditions became more favorable, the Southport Lifeboat returned to station whilst the Hoylake Lifeboat carried on the remainder of the journey to Brunswick Dock.
