Man arrested after shooting

Police have arrested a man following a shooting in Sefton on Saturday 28th August.

Officers were on patrol on Crosby Road South in Seaforth at around 10.45pm when they heard a loud bang and saw a male running away.

A 38 year-old man was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injury which is not believed to be life threatening.

A 27 year-old man was detained on suspicion of s18 wounding and possession of a section one firearm.

The man has been released under investigation.

The injured man has been released from hospital.

An investigation is underway to establish what has taken place and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

DCI Ian Hussey said: "Enquiries into this incident and the circumstances leading up to it remain ongoing.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Crosby Road South who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation."
