Marine Drive Southport to be reopened for the British Musical Fireworks Championship this weekend.

“Following an inspection on Monday, September 13, repair and restoration works will continue to take place on the underside of Southport Pier.

“This means Marine Drive will remain closed until works are completed. This is to facilitate the erection of scaffolding over the carriageway. While we apologise for any delays these essential works may cause, the safety of our pedestrians and road users remains paramount.”

Scaffolding will be temporarily removed and the site will be safely secured on Friday, September 24^th to allow for Marine Drive to accommodate considerably increased traffic volumes for the British Musical Fireworks Championship. Work will resume on Monday, September 27^th.

The spokesperson added that contractors are hopeful all works will be completed on schedule and Marine Drive will be reopened to traffic on October 1^st.
