No Southport Xmas lights switch on as BID says"It does not deliver any benefits to the levy payers"

This years Southport Christmas lights switch on will be replaced by "a number of interactive activities"

Over the past few years Lord Street has been closed and a huge TV screen and stage erected with entertainment provided. Stars such as East 17 and the Drifters have appeared.

eyeonsouthport asked the Southport BID if there was going to be a switch on event this year.

The BID commented that "The levy payers do not wish to fund ‘switch on’ events."

Full conversation below.

Is there going to be a Christmas lights switch on this year ?

Hello. This year we are putting together a Christmas programme (a number of interactive activities) over the whole festive period. Keep following us to get all the details. Southport BID

Thats not what I asked .Will there be all the usual entertainment etc?

So there will be no big event on Lord Street with thousands of people ?

The BID is funded by businesses and we deliver activities which deliver the best return on investment for them. Although the switch on is a nice event, its extremely expensive and does not deliver any benefits to the levy payers.
