Pontins in Southport gets some good reviews on Trip Advisor. Slugs might be a problem though

Pontins in Southport is often slated on Trip Advisor but recently there have been a few good reviews.

Wasnt sure what to expect after reading the reviews. The outside of the accomodation blocks and pretty much all the out door areas are really neglected, a few flowers, baskets etc would really cheer it up, but we had an upstairs room and it was really clean and smelled lovely when we arrived.

We took our own bedding but the duvets, mattresses and pillows we all clean. Fridge cooker bath toilet and shower all clean. Only channels 1 to 5 on tv but we didnt go to watch tv. Enough pots pans etc to cook with.

The showers on a timer so you have to keep pressing the button. The evening entertainment was ok if you stayed on site, the kids enjoyed it. Some really good singers and a magic show. Quite a large amusement arcade and plenty of choice in the shop. Blue coats work really hard.

Didnt quite understand the evening bingo game in the club as they played a line for around £90 and a house won around £40? Met some nice people, not far from Southport up the coast or Formby down the coast. There is a lovely beach just a short walk away. On site Crazy golf, go carts, swimming. Overall not a bad week.

Was expecting the worst after reading some reviews, but was pleasantly surprised, the room was clean and everything worked. It must be hit and miss with the rooms, some people were complaining.

We had ours through sun holidays so paid £40 for 2 of us, so had a good week, the site was running its go carts, its hire bikes, crazy golf, trampolines and swimming pool so plenty to do the club was also open for bingo and other entertainment in the evening . The beach is two minutes down the road off the site, lovely beach as well.

Expected the worst after stupidly reading the bad comments on trip advisor. Yes it is run down and a bit tired but for the money and the entertainment that was on over our three nights it was exceptional value.

Our room was clean, new toaster and kettle and even a new shower curtain. We took all our own bedding and pillows. The floor wasn’t too clean but was not a problem as we just did it ourselves with floor wipes.

I really don’t know why some people feel the need to put negative comments. You pay a bargain price when booking Pontins, so what are you expecting?
A couple of minutes walk to the beautiful beach, five minutes drive to the centre of Southport and parking is free for three hours on the retail park right by the pier.

We took our own food but did have a burger and chips from the van outside the venue £8. Bottle of wine was £13 which is standard for most venues.

Staff were pleasant (special mention to Olivia who kept our wine in the bar fridge safe so we could dance on the dance floor)

Toyah was amazing as were all the performers for the weekend, really danced, laughed, sang and had a brilliant time.

The silent disco was exceptionally good.
Will defiantly be returning next year. Thank you Pontins.

On the bad side of recent reviews was this one.

Well what can I say this place is a real dump just needs a bomb under it. The rooms are a absolute disgrace how anyone can sleep in them is beyond me they are filthy, we stayed 1 night and that was enough especially when you go back at night and find slugs on the worktop then you get up in morning and find them in the bathroom.

I know you get what you pay for and it is sometimes all some people can afford but even if they don’t have a lot you still should not be letting people especially with children stay in this old dirty prison camp. If you have it booked cancel and spend your hard earned cash elsewhere
