Southport 0 Chorley 0

A game of few chances between Southport and Chorley ended in a 0-0 draw at the Pure Stadium.

Opportunities were scarce throughout, with both failing to find clear cut routes to goal.

Despite not getting a third consecutive win, it is still seven points in the space of a week for Liam Watson’s side who have truly got their league season up and running.

The first half chance of the game came Southport’s way, as Dylan Vassallo slid a ball through for Niall Watson, with the keeper just winning the race.

Cam Mason was called in action for the first time after 25 minutes, when he stopped Connor Hall’s effort from a tight angle.

Back down the other end, an Isaac Buckley-Ricketts cross was put behind for a corner, with a teammate unable to get onto the end of it.

From the resulting set-piece, Matt Urwin looked in a bit of trouble but just about survived.

Buckley-Ricketts nearly caused trouble again for the Chorley defence, putting a curling shot wide of the target.

Chorley also had one last effort before the break, with Billy White dragging his effort past the right post.

Early in the second half the visitors had an opportunity to take the lead, but the Hall struck the ball against a member of his own team who was on the floor.

Southport also tested Urwin, with Niall Watson dragging the ball back for Buckley-Ricketts to hit just inside the box, forcing the keeper to save down low to his left.

In the 75th minute Adam Anson came the closest to breaking the deadlock.

The centre back got up high to head onto the cross bar, with the ball bouncing down on the line.

Urwin was in place to block the follow up, with Chorley just surviving.

In the end nothing could separate the two sides.
