Visitors thanked after busy summer at the Southport and Ainsdale coast

As the school summer holidays come to an end, so does a busy season along the Sefton coast where the Council’s Green Sefton Service has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors this year to Crosby, Ainsdale and Southport beaches.

The incredibly busy summer has seen Sefton Council’s coastal rangers managing beach car parks, emptying bins, litter picking, helping visitors and managing incidents alongside partners including the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, and National Trust Formby.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Thank you to all the visitors who’ve been to our beaches over the summer and played their part in taking their rubbish home and keeping our beaches looking fantastic. And a big thank you to Green Sefton and all our partners and volunteers for all the work they’ve done over the summer months keeping our coast clean and safe, and so enjoyable for all our visitors.”

Mark Shaw, Green Sefton Service Manager, said:

“Thanks to all our visitors for coming down this summer, for being kind to our staff, for being kind to each other and we hope you’ve had a great time. We’ll look forward to seeing you next year.”

With the good weather predicted to stay a little longer, visitors are reminded that the Council’s beach car parks at Southport and Ainsdale remain open until the end of September, subject to high tides.

They are also encouraged to plan their visits ahead of time, to check weather forecasts and tide times to avoid getting into any difficultly on Sefton’s beaches particularly as the season changes. More information about planning a visit can be found on the Sefton Council website at www.sefton.gov.uk/beaches

At Ainsdale, exciting projects to rejuvenate the area remain underway. The sand lizard mural at Toad Hall will be completed by Paul Curtis later this month and the B-Eat on the Street food and drink concession trial will run until late autumn.

Anyone who wants to have their say on future proposals for improving and investing in the Ainsdale-on-Sea area have until 30th September to submit their views as part of a public consultation.

Similarly, anyone who has spent time at the coast this summer, or at another Council managed park or greenspace is asked to take part in the Green Sefton customer satisfaction survey, open for feedback until 31st October.

People can take part in both consultations online by visiting www.yourseftonyoursay.sefton.gov.uk
