Warning from Merseyside Police for motorcycle owners in Southport

Two men in the process of trying to steal a motorcycle from a driveway in Southport were disrupted by PCSO's on mobile patrol in Southport at approximately 5:40pm, Thursday 2nd September. The men ran off onto the railway line at Portland Street level crossing.

Trains were stopped for a short period of time and BTP officers assisted with a search of the line, but sadly the two made good their escape this time.

The victim's bike was recovered at the scene, as was a Honda CBF125 that the pair had been using to scope out other motorcycles parked on driveways in the area. This bike is suspected stolen and has been recovered for examination.

Police are aware of other CCTV footage of similar incidents in the wider area.

Bikers, if you are able to keep bikes somewhere else other than in front gardens or parked up unattended, it would be good to do so. Don't rely on steering locks alone. That is not enough to secure your bike.

You will need something more substantial. The offenders were on a motorcycle with no registration plate and full-face helmets. If you see people on bikes like this, report their location straight away. Don't rely on someone else to do it. You could help stop another person losing their motorcycle.
