60-Year-Old Southport Man Jailed for Breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order

A 60-year-old man has been jailed after breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) at Southport Railway Station.

John Klieve of Cambridge Road, Southport was originally sentenced to 14 months suspended for 2 years, back in 2019 at Liverpool Crown Court for inciting a female under 16 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of meeting an under 16, distributing indecent images of children and three counts of making indecent images of children.

A condition of his SHPO was to not have any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16 unless approved by parent/carer or police are notified.

In September 2022 whilst on a train, Klieve stared at a 14-year-old girl before licking his lips and winking at her, breaching the order by having unsupervised contact with a child without approved permission. For this breach he was sentenced to 16 months in prison on Friday 24 January at Liverpool Crown Court.

BTP ViSOR Unit Offender Manager Vicky Davis said: “Ancillary orders, such as a SHPO are a great tool for us to continue to prioritise the safety of passengers on the railway, whether or not a person has served a custodial sentence. We can impose restrictions on travel or like in this case, engagement with others, and when these are breached, we will take action.

"This should act as a stark warning to anyone considering offending on the railway or breaching their SHPO;  we will catch you.
