81year old man punched in the eye on Merseyrail Train

Do you recognise this man?

Officers investigating an assault on-board a train between Liverpool Central and James Street stations are releasing this image in connection.

At just before 3pm on 19 April, the first victim, a 71-year-old woman, was sat in an unoccupied seat when a man approached her and subjected her to a torrent of abuse.

As he continued to shout in her face the second victim, an 81-year-old man, stepped in and told him to leave the woman alone. The man responded by shouting “she was in my [expletive] seat” and punching the second victim in the eye.

Two members of rail staff removed the man from the service at James Street station.

Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could help their investigation.
