All eyes on you this Christmas - BTP message of reassurance to passengers

As the countdown to Christmas continues, British Transport Police are out in force, looking out for you and keeping you safe, 24/7.

And for those planning to use the railway with criminal intent - you'd better watch out ... we’re coming after you.

Officers will be working across the network with increased visibility patrols as well as a number of other tools in our crime fighting arsenal.

Covert officers will be on the lookout for pickpockets who thrive in busy environments and are encouraging passengers to keep an eye on their belongings on trains and in stations.

We'll also be looking out for any incidents of anti social and unwanted sexual behaviour, urging the public to download the new Railway Guardian app and to report anything that concerns them via the app or through our discreet 61016 text number.

Supt Lorna McEwan said: "With fewer trains running over the festive season due to industrial action, services are expected to be extremely busy so please plan your journey as best you can.

"Everyone plays a part in keeping the railway safe and the eyes and ears of the travelling public and railway staff are an essential tool, by reporting anything that doesn't feel right.

"The Railway Guardian app helps the public report crimes to BTP. Via the app, the public can text 61016 or report via the BTP website.

"This time of year everyone feels the pressure, everyone is in a hurry, we're all stressed but it's important to remember that we're all in the same situation so please be patient and have respect for each other, particularly rail staff.

"Our festive operation is all about ensuring you have a happy Christmas; by preventing crime so that the railway remains a safe place to travel, as well as providing reassurance and safety advice to passengers.
