An Inside Look at Southport’s Response Police Work
It’s Response Policing week, and we’re celebrating the professionalism and courage of our response police officers and the vital part they play in keeping our communities safe.
No two days are the same and the role can be physically, mentally, and emotionally tough. The ever-changing world that we live in means the role is more demanding than ever before.
We’d like to share a snapshot of some of the incidents our response officers in Southport have attended and dealt with over the last couple of days:
• Monday night patrols were deployed to search for a high-risk missing person. This involved searching several addresses in this area, but thankfully the person was found at 03:30am in Manchester by Greater Manchester Police.
• Response officers attended a burglary at the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Lord Street. The alarm had activated over an hour before police were called. Officers secured the crime scene, and an investigation is now underway.
• Arrests were also made at two domestic violence incidents, an attempted burglary and an incident of blackmail.
• A man was stop searched in the town centre on suspicion of possession of cannabis. During the search, cannabis was found, and the man was also found to be in possession of a knife. He was therefore arrested for both offences.
• Officers attended a concern for the safety of a female seen in the town centre who appeared to be intoxicated with a head injury. Officer persuaded the female that she should go to hospital to get the injury checked and ensured she got there safely.
• Response officers attended a report of someone suffering a mental health episode and together with the help of mental health professionals, managed to bring the situation under control.
We are so thankful to our response teams for the fantastic job they do in keeping our communities safe.
