Police are appealing for information to help identify a man after his body was found in the River Mersey on Sunday 6 August.

At around 9.30am, it was reported by a member of the public that a man’s body had been found near to the Fort Perch Road, in New Brighton.

Our enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and we are releasing further details in the hope it can lead to information from the public.

The man is described as a white male, who was around 50 years of age, 5ft 10in tall with a beard and had short dark hair.

The man also had a large scar and surgical implant on his left shoulder, as well as another scar on his upper abdomen.

When found he was wearing a large sized shirt. He also had a 32 sized waist and wore footwear in a size eight.

We are also releasing an image of his distinctive Champion shirt (see image above), which we hope could help identify him due to the pattern and colours.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.
