Arrest made after incidents at Southport V Chorley match
police can confirm that a man was arrested and further enquiries are underway following incidents of disorder at the Southport v Chorley National League football match on Saturday 5 November.
During the match, flares were thrown and two people were ejected from the ground. Following the game, the disorder was reported outside the ground on Haig Avenue, between fans of both clubs.
Officers attended and a 29-year-old man from Adlington was arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace.
Damage was also reported to a car nearby.
Community Policing Sergeant Andy Dentith said: "These were unpleasant scenes in full view of local residents and innocent match-goers, none of whom should have to experience such aggression, which clubs work so hard to eradicate from our sports grounds, and whose stewards do so much good work to minimise such issues.
"Thankfully nobody has reported any serious injuries and the crowd dispersed following police action, but we are taking these incidents very seriously. Officers will now fully investigate, working alongside both clubs to identify those responsible and take appropriate action.
