Bank Holiday in Southport: Shocking Beach Conditions and Closed Attractions
Southport will be welcoming thousands of day trippers over the Bank Holiday weekend and many of them will be heading to the beach if the weather is fine. Well they are in for a shock as the beach is disgusting. I have lived in Southport all my life and have never seen the beach in such a terrible state.
The Council blames recent high tides but we have high tides every year and it's never looked this bad.
Several years ago, a council worker with a tractor raked the sand every morning, but this stopped.
The beach car park is a source of much-needed revenue for the Council so you would think that they would look after it.
So this weekend people heading to Southport will find the beach a swamp. Then also find that the Pier is closed and has been since December with no attempt to fix it.
Heading to the Promenade two pubs that were always busy in the summer months are now closed along with the Casino and the Theatre.
Also, one of Southport's two Wetherspoons is now closed along with the Phoenix Bar just off Lord Street.
Dunes Splashworld is still closed after being refurbished.
The only plus side is Pleasureland is looking good and the bowling alley and the cinema are still open along with a few tatty motor boats on the Marine Lake.
