A heroin addict with an extensive criminal record who smashed in the door of a Birmingham Wetherspoons and brandished a metal pole at a Coop worker has been jailed. He already has 206 offences to his name including the time he burgled a bride on the day of her wedding in Southport.

Samuel Lamberton, 40, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to four burglaries and one instance of threatening a person with an offensive weapon at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday. The court heard how on December 5 Lamberton entered the staff area of a Specsavers and stole a woman’s purse from her gym bag.

On Christmas Day he smashed the window of Boots in Sutton Coldfield, stole a charity donation box and £1,175 worth of products including multiple electric razors. On Boxing Day afternoon he entered a Coop supermarket in Erdington and took various products from the shelves to the checkout area where he put them in plastic bags.

When a female staff member confronted him, he produced a foot long metal pole, held it towards her stomach and said: “Don’t try and stop me”. The victim said she was “extremely scared”.

On December 30 Lamberton smashed the door of a JD Wetherspoons pub with a hammer and stole multiple bottles of spirits worth £483. He attempted to escape by the same means he had entered but was intercepted by police and arrested.

On September 22 2017 Lamberton broke into the room of newly wed couple Siobhan, 40, and Malcom Lawson, 53 at the Royal Clifton Hotel in Southport. He stole gifts of £100 cash and a £280 bottle of Armagnac brandy.

Hotel CCTV footage showed Lamberton forcing their door open and a local PCSO identified him. A statement from Mrs Lawson, read in court on May 11 2018, said: “Since this I have been extremely upset at having my special wedding day ruined.
