Black Eagles from the Korean Air Force fly over Southport this morning

The Black Eagles display team from Korea have just been flying over Southport this morning.

Three jets swooped low over the town in preparation for their displays at the weekend.

Southport Air Show will play host to the first UK appearance for 2022 by the world famous the Republic of Korea Air Force” in more than ten years.

The Asian nation’s Black Eagles aerobatic flight team, which will see eight KAI T-50B planes, specially-painted in their trademark black, white, and yellow, take part in a series of jaw dropping and awe-inspiring aerial manoeuvres.

The eight Black Eagle pilots will be thrust to the back of seats, experiencing G-force nine times greater than Earth's gravity in their supersonic jets.

The original display team was formed in October 1953, and operated four P-51 Mustangs. In 1967, a new display team, the Black Eagles, was formed. In 1978 the team was disbanded in order to enhance defense preparedness.

The full-time aerobatic team, the Black Eagles, was re-established as the 2nd flight of the 238th Fighter Squadron, the 8th Fighter Wing in December 1994, and flew six Cessna A-37B Dragonfly airplanes. In April 1999 the flight was detached from the 238 FS and became the 239th Aerobatic Flight Squadron.
