Bootle man Allan Mitchell jailed for 18 years and 3 months for sexually abusing and raping young girls.
A man from Bootle has been jailed after he raped and sexually abused a girl over several years.
Allan Mitchell, aged 75, of Washington Parade in Bootle was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to 18 years and 3 months yesterday (Monday 6 March) after he pleaded guilty to 19 sex offences.
On 24 April 2022 police were called to a report of a sexual assault in Formby Woods.
When police visited the victim after the assault it was reported that Mitchell had sexually abused and raped her for over four years. During the investigation a further victim came forward and also reported sexual abuse at the hands of Mitchell dating back to the 1970s.
Mitchell was arrested and charged with 23 offences including rape, sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and other offences committed when the victim was under the age of 13.
Speaking after the sentencing Lead Investigator, Detective Constable Jaclyn Rainford said: “Morton’s incredibly disturbing crimes caused psychological and physical harm to both his victims and I would like to thank both of them for their bravery in not only coming forward but disclosing exactly what happened to police so Mitchell could be put behind bars.
“In sentencing the Judge stated that ‘This abuse is one of the worst cases I have ever heard.’ Mitchell repeatedly subjected his victims to deplorable offences, and we welcome the lengthy sentences given out by the court today.
“The victim’s family would also like to thank the members of the public who contacted the police at Formby Woods and subsequently helped bring the abuse to light.
Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy added “I would urge anyone who has experienced any form of sexual abuse, or know of a child being abused, please come forward and report this to police.
“We have a specialist team committed to dealing with all forms of child abuse, who will treat any information from you extremely seriously, and will follow up every report and any information that comes in, so please report this to us.”
“I can assure anyone who reports such offences that you will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and fully supported through the entire process.”
