Both National Trust sites in Formby near Southport still closed for parking after Storm Arwen
Both car parks remain closed whilst the team carry out essential tree safety work. We’re sorry for any impact this may have on your plans to visit.
The team are prioritising making safe around 50 high risk trees hanging in popular areas. This has to be done slowly and carefully. Each tree can take anything from minutes to several hours to fell.
Lifeboat Road car park – we’ve removed high risk trees from the site side. The public access highway road will open once Sefton Council have completed their safety checks, hopefully later today.
Victoria Road car park – there are still lots of high-risk hanging trees near to the car park and popular pathways. For safety reasons this car park is likely to be closed for at least another week.
Toilets – closed at both locations.
Please bear with us. The team are prioritising tree safety work but must make sure we keep on top of all the other maintenance tasks and conservation work to care for Formby’s nature haven, at this time of year.
Once car parks are open tree safety work will continue around the site for several months.
Different sections of the woodlands will be closed as the team work their way through the huge number of damaged trees. Please look out for signs highlighting areas to avoid.
If you decide to visit on foot please enjoy the dunes and beach for winter walks at this time and keep away from the woodland areas.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
