Former Sands pub site on Ainsdale’s Shore Road set for redevelopment
Sefton Council has agreed Heads of Terms with GSL Developments Limited for the phased lease and redevelopment of the vacant former Sands Public House site. The proposal is intended to bring investment and a hospitality offer to a prominent gateway location, supporting the wider Ainsdale on Sea Eco-Vision.

Southport to hold three-minute silence on July 29
Southport will observe a three-minute silence at 3pm on Wednesday 29 July to remember everyone affected by the events of that date. Public buildings in Sefton will lower their flags to half-mast. Residents are asked not to leave floral tributes at Hart Street or schools and are encouraged to support local causes instead.

Southport Liberal Democrats urge continued support for Queenscourt Hospice
Sefton Council has backed calls for sustainable hospice funding after Queenscourt reduced its inpatient beds from ten to five alongside service and staffing cuts. The motion asks the Government, Sefton MPs and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board to review funding, while the community is urged to continue supporting the hospice.

Replacement buses to run between Southport and Wigan next week
No trains will run between Southport and Wigan Wallgate from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July while Network Rail renews track near Parbold. Replacement buses will operate, while some Manchester services will start or finish at Wigan North Western. Services are due to resume on Saturday 1 August.

Sefton residents and others who live, work, study or socialise locally are being invited to complete an anonymous LGBTQIA+ survey. Taking five to ten minutes, it asks about inclusion, safety, services, wellbeing and community life. Responses will help inform public health planning, service commissioning and inclusive local policies.

48 arrested in Merseyside crime crackdown as 39 warrants executed
Merseyside Police reported 48 arrests after 39 warrants were executed across Liverpool, St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton and Wirral during Operation Vanguard. Searches recovered cash, designer goods, bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, a vehicle, cannabis, suspected cocaine and a knife. Police said enquiries would continue throughout the operation.
