Southport Ocean Plaza Brewers Fayre to close in early September
The Brewers Fayre restaurant at Ocean Plaza in Southport is due to close permanently in September 2026.
Customers with points in the Brewers Fayre Bonus Club have until Monday, 31 August, to use them.
The closure is part of Whitbread’s plan to leave the standalone restaurant market and focus on its Premier Inn hotel business. The company intends to convert some restaurant sites into around 600 additional Premier Inn rooms, while other properties are expected to be sold as going concerns.
Whitbread announced in April that the planned changes would affect all 197 of its remaining branded restaurants across the UK and Ireland. These include Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, Bar + Block, Table Table, Whitbread Inns and Cookhouse + Pub.
The company estimates that around 3,800 roles could be lost across its restaurant operation, although it says it expects to retain a significant proportion of affected staff and will look to redeploy colleagues where possible.
Ocean Plaza’s Brewers Fayre remains listed on the chain’s restaurant locator at Marine Drive, Southport, PR8 1RY. Whitbread said in June that its branded restaurants were still open and trading while the proposed changes remained subject to consultation.
