Calls for 'Common Sense' Approach to Road Gritting in Churchtown
Churchtown Lib Dem Councillors John Dodd, Gareth Lloyd Johnson and Lauren Keith are calling on Sefton Council to include all roads with schools on in their gritting route after being told that Sunny Road isn't included because it isn’t a main road.
Cllr John Dodd, commented: “We have had several complaints about the slippiness of Sunny Road in icy conditions and raised this with the Council. We were told that the road wasn’t included because it isn’t a main road, despite the fact Churchtown School is on the road.”
Cllr Gareth Lloyd Johnson, said “It’s downright dangerous that this road isn’t being gritted. Of course we know that every road can’t be gritted due to costs and logistics, but we have been raising issues about slippiness on this road for a while.”
Cllr Lauren Keith added: “Common sense needs to be applied when it comes to what constitutes a main road. Any road with a school should be classed as a main road given the amount of children and adults who will be walking to school of a morning.”
