Cheers and Barks: Southport Pub Takes Home National Award for Dog Friendly Atmosphere

Southport pub proves it’s top dog at national awards
There were wagging tails and raised glasses aplenty at The Old Duke in Southport, as the Marston’s pub was recognised at the UK’s Best Pub for Dogs at the Great British Pub Awards.
Commended by judges for its warm welcome to both two-legged and four-legged guests, the Old Duke team were celebrated for going the extra mile to make canine companions feel just as at home as their humans.
From the pub’s Bark-ista station, where pooches can be treated to a puppuccino, or their special À la barke dog-focused menu, which offers tasty treats to get tails wagging, the pub has left no stone unturned when it comes to looking after its hungriest canines.
Heather Porter-Brandwood, General Manager for The Old Duke, said:“We’re absolutely thrilled to be named Best Pub for Dogs. From our special À la barke dog-focused menu, to our fabulous array of beds and blankets, we’ve created a space where everyone can relax together.
“This award is a real testament to our team’s passion for making every visit special, whether you’re here for a pint or a paw-some day out."
Neil Campbell, Chief Operations Officer at Marston’s, said:“Huge congratulations to The Old Duke, Southport, for their richly deserved award at the Great British Pub Awards. These awards celebrate everything that makes a great British pub, from creating brilliant experiences to building strong connections in the communities in which we operate.”
It was a double cause for celebration for Marston’s at the awards ceremony, held in Leeds, as The Manor House in Whittington also scooped the award for Marston’s Pub of the Year.
