Controversial Candidate Sparks Outrage: Sefton Tories Demand Reform UK Apology

Reform UK Must Apologise for Putting a Holocaust Denier on the Ballot Paper say Sefton Conservatives.

Conservatives on Sefton Council are calling for Reform UK to apologise to the people of Sefton for again putting forward a candidate with abhorrent views and immediately withdraw their support from one of their candidates.

At a previous by-election in Blundellsands, Reform had to withdraw support from their candidate for racist posts online. This time round one of their candidates in Sefton has been uncovered by the Liverpool Echo as holding deeply offensive views.

Mike Prendergast, Leader of the Conservative Group on Sefton Council, said, “This is now the second time that Reform in Sefton have put forward a candidate for election in Sefton who turns out to hold totally abhorrent views.”

“The recent report in the Liverpool Echo is deeply disturbing and shows that in order to simply stuff the ballot paper with Reform candidates, they’ll put anyone forward.”

“Reform claim to have a vigorous vetting process, so there are only 2 conclusions to draw from this. Their vetting process is rubbish or they knew about this and put this candidate forward anyway.”

“Either way, it simply goes to show that Reform are not a serious party, don’t learn from their past mistakes and simply treat the people of Sefton with disdain by putting forward, again, such unsuitable candidates.”

The views of the Reform candidate in Sefton, reported in the Liverpool Echo, include describing the Holocaust as a hoax and propaganda. He also stated that the children murdered in Hart Street, Southport were “slaughtered” by the government on his social media postings.

Councillor Prendergast said, “Reform need to drop this candidate straightaway and apologise to the people of Sefton for again failing to properly vet their candidates. Local councillors make decisions about their local communities and vital public services, like adult and children’s social care.”

“People with such abhorrent views and who peddle crackpot conspiratorial nonsense shouldn’t be anywhere near those kind of decisions.”

“Many members of our communities will be deeply worried at the prospect of people with such awful views being put forward for election by a party that has ambitions to govern.”

“People are voting right now, with postal votes having arrived with many people. Those thinking of voting Reform should reconsider, Reform are not serious people and if a party that seeks office isn’t serious about candidate selection, how can they be serious about anything else?”
