Council opens new immersive room as part of education on the environment at Southport Eco Centre
Yesterday, Thursday 23rd June, Chief Executive Dwayne Johnson and fellow council members opened a new immersive room at the Southport Eco Centre. The room uses state of the art tech to educate on climate change and green energy.
The room immersive room is an interactive experience to look at how various factors impact negatively on air quality, both for on us and the environment. The room also looks at how we can all make small changes to our own lifestyles to help improve it.
The room will be used as part of the counsel's education programme, with 4000 schoolchildren a year being able to view the new experience. There are also plans to open the room up for the general public as part of themed community open days in the coming months.
Funding for the room has come from the DEFRA Air Quality Grant fund to help in the fight against air pollution.
Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said:
“I am delighted that Sefton has been awarded this money to educate young people about the issue of air quality and its impact on society."
