Council refuse approval for the installation of 15m mobile phone mast on Lulworth Road in Southport
Dukes Ward Councillors and Sir Ron Watson and Mike Prendergast are pleased with the recent decision by Sefton Council to refuse approval for the installation of a 15 metre high mobile phone mast on Lulworth Road.
The application followed on from a previous application for an 18 metre high mast being refused earlier in the year.
Following a campaign by local residents and the Conservative Dukes Ward Councillors, including a petition and many representations directly to Sefton Council, the application was refused.
The proposed mobile phone mast was judged to be ‘a dominating and intrusive feature’ for the area and the 3 metre reduction in height from the previous application was not enough to overcome this.
Cllr Mike Prendergast said, ‘We have worked with local residents to address their concerns. Whilst we welcome the better infrastructure this type of structure provides, it needs to be located in a more suitable location which won’t dominate the surrounding area.’
Cllr Sir Ron Watson commented, ‘I and my Conservative colleagues are committed to supporting residents and maintaining the unique character of Birkdale. I hope the developer will now look at alternative sites.’
