Sefton Council uses data to help residents claim unclaimed benefits

Sefton Council's Welfare Rights and Transformation teams are working together to help more residents access the financial support they are entitled to. 

Over £4½ million in additional income 

Over the past year, the Council’s Welfare Rights service has already helped Sefton residents secure more than £4½ million in additional income. This has been achieved through free advice and support provided face-to-face, over the phone and online. 

Now they are combining their expertise in benefits and financial support with the Transformation team’s data and digital capabilities, to find new ways of reaching residents. 

LIFT 

In this recent video filmed at Crosby Library, representatives from both teams explain how they have worked together to make better use of the Low Income Family Tracker (LIFT).

LIFT is a data insight tool that helps identify households who may be eligible for financial assistance but are not currently receiving it.

Unclaimed money they were entitled to

Cllr Liz Dowd, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said: This year, Sefton Council's Welfare Benefits team have secured an additional four and a half million pounds for local residents. That's money that they haven't claimed, but were entitled to.

"That four and a half million pounds includes benefits, such as pip, disability allowance, all the things that people were entitled to, but didn't know they could claim."
