Police appeal for footage after drivers use M6 slip road wrong way near Lancaster
Police are appealing for dashcam and mobile phone footage after motorists turned around and drove the wrong way up a slip road following a collision on the M6 near Lancaster.
The incident happened on the northbound carriageway near junction 34 at about 1.45pm on Sunday, August 23. Traffic was slow or stationary after the collision, with delays between junction 34 and junction 35.
Police said some drivers turned around to avoid joining the motorway. Nobody was seriously injured in either the collision or the subsequent incident, but officers warned that the decision could have had fatal consequences.
“Being stuck in standstill or slow-moving traffic can be frustrating, we get it, but it is never an excuse to put the lives of those around you, and your own life at risk.”
Officers said they have identified a number of the vehicles and drivers involved and will take appropriate action. They are asking anyone travelling through the junction at the time to check their footage.
Police want dashcam recordings covering the junction 34 slip road, as well as any mobile phone footage showing the vehicles involved.
“Nobody got hurt yesterday, but that outcome could have so easily been different,” police said. “We will not tolerate driving that endangers lives.”
