Police renew appeal to identify woman with no teeth found dead in Stanley Park
Police are continuing to appeal for information four weeks on from the discovery of the body of a woman in Stanley Park.
We were contacted by a member of the public at around 5.25pm on Friday, 28 August, following the discovery of a black bin bag in bushes in the walled garden.
Officers attended and sadly found the body of the woman. It is believed she had been there for several weeks, possibly since early July.
To date we have been unable to identify the woman despite repeated public appeals.
Following forensic tests, we have been able to establish a DNA profile for the woman but there is no match on the national DNA database.
The woman also had no teeth which means it has not been possible to compare dental records.
We have been able to establish the woman suffered from osteoporosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) and arthritis in her hands.
She was also malnourished although it has not been possible to establish if that was due to her age or neglect.
Our enquiries remain ongoing and to date the occupants of nearly 900 properties have been spoken to and 126 women have been eliminated from our enquiries after concerns were raised for people matching the description of the woman.
We have also expanded our enquiries to investigate reports of woman aged between 60 and 80.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald: “We are hoping that reference to the woman’s medical conditions will jog someone’s memory and assist us in identifying her.
“Whilst we believe the woman to be aged around 70 we have not ruled out that she could be slightly younger or older and we would ask that people take that into consideration."
The woman was white, approximately 5ft 2in tall and of slight build and was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.
We are continuing to ask anyone who recognises the description of the woman or could further assist with our investigation to get in touch.
