Local Southport MP Damien Moore has welcomed the announcement that a new unit of Emergency
Incident Response Officers (EMROs) have been based at Southport Police Station.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that following a force-wide internal review of emergency
responses, a recommendation was made to increase the number of EMROs across Merseyside. This
has led to additional officers bring based at Southport Police Station as of October 2022.

This move will improve the police’s ability to respond to emergency calls force-wide, especially those
communities in the outlying areas such as Southport.

There is now a team of sergeants and constables based at Southport Police Station which cover all
shift patterns – mornings, afternoons, and nights. This will run alongside the existing Community
Policing Team already operating from within Southport.

Mr. Moore, who has advocated throughout his time as the local MP for an increase in policing
resources for Southport, has commented on the visible benefits to the town of these new
arrangements.

Damien Moore, Member of Parliament for Southport, said:
“Our local policing teams do extraordinary work every day to make Southport safer. I warmly
welcome Merseyside Police’s confirmation that our town has been prioritised for additional
resources.

“With a new unit of Emergency Incident Response Officers being based at Southport Police Station,
we can expect to see an increase in policing activity and visibility as police travel between incidents.

“We will also see an improvement in the police’s ability to respond to emergency calls, giving re-
assurance to residents that the police are always rapidly available when needed.

“I have great confidence in the work of local policing leaders, who I meet regularly to discuss the
issues which are brought to me as Southport’s MP. I’m always on hand to assist residents in flagging
thematic concerns with the police – please get in touch if you’d like to discuss this with me further.”
