Darlington v Southport preview

preview

After a disappointing return of one point from two games against teams in the bottom four in the last week, Southport now face two games against teams in the top seven as the road trips continue.

First up we are at Darlington on Tuesday night when a win for the home side could see them back on top of the table.

Southport have already beaten Darlington at Haig Avenue this season and were very unfortunate to go out of the FA Cup at Blackwell Meadows when reduced to 10 men very early when Michael Carberry saw red after the home player tripped over his own feet. The referee that day, Gareth Thomas is back in charge on Tuesday.

Chief tormentor in the FA Cup was Mark Beck with a hat-trick, he moved to Solihull Moors last week.

Darlington Form Line

Darlington beat local rivals Spennymoor 3-2 on Saturday in front of a bumper gate of 1903. With Newcastle at home aiming to get to Wembley it’s unlikely to be a gate that high on Tuesday but the home side are still expecting a good turnout.

Darlington games have produced 90 goals so far this season (53 For 37 Against) the second highest in the league. They have conceded 21 times at home, only three teams ahve conceded more at home. Four home defeats have come against Chorley, Scarborough, Fylde and Banbury.
