Detectives interview a 16-year-old male in relation to violent disorder and theft which took place in Southport on 30 July last year.

Detectives investigating violent disorder in Merseyside last summer have made a further arrest and charge.

A 16-year-old male from Walton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is the latest to be charged in relation to the disorder on Country Road, Walton on 3 August.

He has been charged with violent disorder, arson, burglary other than dwelling and theft by finding. He has been conditionally bailed.

Detectives have also interviewed a 16-year-old male from Netherton in relation to violent disorder and theft which took place in Southport on 30 July last year. He has been released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Sergeant John Bolton said: “This shows that we continue to be steadfast in bringing those who helped cause such violence and disruption to our communities to justice.

“We are committed to ensure those responsible for the disorder are held to account.

“Our investigation continues as we identify more people who displayed such abhorrent behaviour which damaged our communities, and we will not stop until we’ve put everyone we possibly can before the courts.

“We advise anyone else who took part in the disorder to do the right thing and hand themselves in.”

The total of people arrested by Merseyside Police has now reached 185, with 147 charged and 128 people sentenced to a combined 237 years in prison so far.
