Disappointing Home Defeat for Southport in 2-0 Loss

A 2-0 home defeat on a disappointing evening for the home side.

After the heroics of Saturday it was all very flat tonight and Leamington went away with the points.

The first goal came in the second minute of added time in the first half when one had been signalled and was the result of some scrappy defending allowing Timmy Berridge to prod home from close range.

Southport had enjoyed the better of the first half but as has been the case so often this season were unable to find the killer touch.

The second half went really flat after the late first half goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the side.

The second goal came in controversial circumstances after a drop ball was awarded to Southport but a visiting player crept in and dispossed Danny Philliskirk who was caught unawares. Southport still had time to react but were left wide open allowing Henry Landers to produce a smart finish from 12 yards out.

Alan Morgan on the Southport bench received a yellow card for his protests.

No way back after that and with too mnay players off their game tonight Leamington were able to see the game out very comfortably.
