Duck Race Day at Martin Mere near Southport
On your marks, get set, go...WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is making a splash this bank holiday weekend with the annual rubber duck race on Monday, May 2, at 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm.
Throughout April, children have been coming in their droves to paint a rubber duck to enter into the popular duck race over the bank holiday.
But don’t worry if you didn’t paint a duck over the Easter holidays, you can buy one on the day to decorate and register in the race.
The winning duck owners will receive vouchers to spend in the Martin Mere retail shop.
Centre manager at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Nick Brooks, said: “We are delighted that the duck race is taking place at Martin Mere once again this year; last year was an incredible event for the centre and we hope that this year will be even better.”
He added: “Last year, there were nearly 200 ducks taking part in each race with a great variety of colours and designs on show.
“There was much drama in last year’s event with one duck streaming into the lead, only to drift into a ditch, trapping five others to allow a duck to sail from behind into an uncatchable lead.”
Additional bank holiday activities include: pond dipping between 1.30pm and 3pm to discover which creatures are lurking in the ponds; grab your paddle and take to the water on our canoe safari and boat tours; build a den out of conifer; watch our family of otters feed; and splash and dash in our adventure play area that features water play and go on a wild walk adventure
A great wetland day out for the whole family.
