Elderly Woman Injured in Birkdale Bus Collision, Police Seek Witnesses
Police are appealing for information following a serious collision in Birkdale earlier this week.
At around 12.55pm on Wednesday 27 May, we received a report that a collision had occurred involving a single decker bus and a grey Porsche on Liverpool Road, outside Cove, near to the junction of Alma Road.
An elderly female passenger on the service bus, which had been travelling in the direction of Birkdale railway station, suffered serious injuries.
The injured woman, aged in her 70s, was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
The driver of the Porsche failed to stop but enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a serious collision which has left a woman in hospital. I appeal to the public for help with our investigation.
“In particular, I am keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the build up to it. I know that there were a large number of people in the area at the time, including pedestrians and motorists.
“I also appeal to local residents and businesses who may have CCTV systems and who have not yet spoken to my officers to review their footage. If you believe that you have captured the incident, please get in touch.
“Equally I also appeal to anyone who was in the locality at the time who may have dash cam in their vehicles. Both front and rear cameras can often record vital evidence without the driver being aware. Please review your systems and again I appeal for you to get in touch if you can help”.
