Bright Sparx campaign calls for responsible Bonfire Night celebrations

As Bonfire Night approaches, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging residents to celebrate safely and responsibly as part of its annual Bright Sparx campaign.

Where possible, attend organised bonfires and firework displays, which provide a safer environment for everyone to enjoy the festivities.

If you are celebrating at home:

  • Only buy fireworks from reputable retailers and look for CE or UKCA safety markings.

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Avoid handling fireworks if you've been drinking alcohol.

  • Never leave bonfires unattended.

  • Light fireworks at arm's length, then stand well back.

  • Keep children supervised and pets indoors where possible.

We are also reminding residents that nuisance fires, hoax calls and anti-social behaviour place unnecessary pressure on emergency services. Every time firefighters are called to a deliberate fire or a false alarm, they may be diverted from incidents where lives, homes or businesses are at risk.

Our firefighters and emergency service colleagues are here to keep you safe. Please help us do that by using 999 responsibly, avoiding anti-social behaviour and treating our crews with respect.

By celebrating safely, responsibly and respectfully, we can all help make Bonfire Night an enjoyable occasion for everyone.
