Southport Lifeboat crews responded to five incidents along the Sefton coast between August 3 and August 16, including searches, mud rescues and a medical evacuation.

The first call came at 2.15pm on August 3, when the Southport Quads were sent to reports of a person stuck in mud on Southport Beach. The team was stood down on arrival after RNLI Lifeguards North West escorted the casualty to safety.

At 12.27pm on August 10, the Quads and Southport Lifeboat’s UAS drone team helped search for a person believed to be walking across the beach towards Blackpool. HM Coastguard Southport had spoken to the first informant before losing sight of the individual.

After about 90 minutes, barefoot tracks believed to belong to the person were found and followed inland towards Marshside. It was then established that the individual had safely left the beach, and all teams were stood down.

Southport Lifeboat was also asked to help search for two missing children at Ainsdale Beach at 6.22pm on August 12. The crew prepared the necessary equipment at the boathouse but was stood down shortly afterwards when the children were found safe and well.

On August 14, the Quads were tasked by Holyhead Coastguard to assist an unconscious man at Formby Beach. The crew reached the casualty while North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust paramedics worked to stabilise him.

Working with Merseyside Police and Southport CRT, the lifeboat crew used the Quads to evacuate him to the Formby Lifeboat Road car park. He was then taken to Southport Hospital for further treatment.

The latest incident was at Hightown at midday on August 16, when Southport Lifeboat was paged to support HM Coastguard Crosby during a mud rescue. The tide was still flooding and the lifeboat was preparing to leave the station when Crosby Coastguard successfully rescued the casualty. Southport’s crew was then stood down.

Southport Offshore Rescue Trust, which operates Southport Lifeboat, thanked the agencies involved for their cooperation. The independent charity provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the Southport coastline.
