The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Merseyside, including Southport, as Storm Austen moves across the UK on Friday 23 October.

The warning is in force from 10am until 9pm on Friday. The Met Office says gusts of around 45 to 55mph are possible inland and in exposed areas, alongside locally heavy rain.

Some travel disruption is possible, with longer journey times and delays affecting roads, rail services, flights and ferries. High-sided vehicles, caravans and other vehicles may be more vulnerable on exposed routes and bridges.

Coastal areas should take extra care. Strong winds can produce large waves, spray and beach debris, creating dangerous conditions on sea fronts, coastal roads and near the shore.

The Met Office also says there is a chance of short-term power cuts and disruption to other services. People are advised to secure loose items outside their homes, such as bins, garden furniture and trampolines, and to check travel conditions before setting off.

Weather warnings can change at short notice. Residents should check the latest forecast and follow advice from emergency services and local authorities.
