Southport progress to Round Four of the FA Trophy after a relatively comfortable win against NPL side Leek Town.

It wasn’t without it’s scares, former ‘Port player Tunde Owolabi was through on goal one on one with Chris Renshaw in the Southport goal but the ‘keeper pulled off a great save to keep the ball out of the net.  Mo Touray hit the post and Luke Griffiths the bar in the first period for Southport but it was 0-0 at half time.

As has been customary this season Southport started the second half much better and the opening goal came in the 60th minute with a brilliant finish from the on loan striker Chris Sze. It was Sze whom the earned the penalty in the 70th minute and then got up to score it with a cheeky chip over the ‘keeper (they are lovely when they go in) to make it 2-0.

Leek pulled a goal back in the 89th minute through fomer ‘Port player Liam Edwards to set up what could have been a nervy added time period but with everyone pushed forward in search of an equaliser Southport broke and Luke Burgess sent Arthur Gnahoua through on goal and he finished it off for afinal score of 3-1.

The draw for the next ropund is on Talksport 2 at 5pm on Monday and it will be a national draw.
