Fatal Collision in National Trust Woodland at Formby: Police Appeal for Information
Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision that happened in Formby yesterday afternoon, Sunday 27th August.
Just after 2:10pm, we received a report that a dark blue coloured Mercedes A class had been involved in a collision at the entrance to the National Trust Woodland located off Victoria Road, where the vehicle struck trees and overgrowth just beyond the entrance hut at the site.
The attending emergency services managed to remove the 57-year-old male driver of the Mercedes from the vehicle and he was taken to Southport Hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.
There were no other vehicles involved or people injured in this collision.
We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has CCTV or dash camera footage which may have captured this 2022 model Mercedes A-class in the lead up to this incident.
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with this man’s family at this devastating time”.
“I would like to say, ‘thank you’ to the people who helped at the scene of this collision and have assisted with this investigation so far."
“If anyone recalls a vehicle matching this description in the area at the time, that raised any concerns, please contact our officers. Similarly, any residents or people walking along Victoria Road that may have seen this vehicle or if there are any properties on the route that have CCTV that would have captured the build up to this incident, I would appreciate you getting in touch. Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear, could assist us in providing answers for the gentleman’s family”.
