Natterjack toad survey results 2023
Throughout the Spring and Summer months the ranger team carry out weekly natterjack toad surveys to monitor breeding success. This involves carefully inspecting each of the breeding pools and noting down findings.

Here's a round up of the 2023 breeding season, which we're delighted to confirm included the first sighting of toadlets at Formby's nature haven since 2019

Surveys carried out April – June.
Normally continue until the end of August but all pools had dried up by the end of June.
26 pools on site in total.
6 pools had spawn in including some of the new slacks created as part of the Dynamic Dunescapes project.
First recording of toadlets since 2019.
 Toadlets recorded in 2 pools.
The highest number of toadlets recorded during a single survey was 60.
