Fylde Road Co-op in Southport is open after ram raiders failed attempt to steal cash machine.

The Co-op in Fylde Road in Southport is open after last week failed attempt by ram raiders to steal the cash machine.

We are appealing for information following an attempted burglary in Southport in the early hours of this morning, Friday 18 March.

Officers were called to reports that the cash machine at Co-Op store on Fylde Road was broken in to, but nothing was stolen.

It was reported that the offenders broke into the shop using tools before attacking the cash machine inside the premises and pulling it out using a vehicle. They then fled towards Water Lane in a black car.

A transit vehicle was left at the scene which has been recovered for forensic examination.

An investigation is now underway, and officers remain at the location today to continued enquiries.

Detective Inspector Jay Halpin said: “Thankfully no one was hurt while the offenders targeted the cash machine, and nothing was stolen.

“Business thefts are not victimless crimes, and especially when small businesses like this provide an important service for the community and inconveniencing residents who depend on their local shop.

“I urge any witnesses who saw suspicious activity on Fylde Road in the early hours of this morning, or any drivers that may have captured dashcam footage then please get in touch so we can bring them to justice.”
