Helicopter Hero lesson brings CPR skills to primary classrooms
NWAA invites schools to get involved with Restart a Heart Day
Primary schools across the North West are being encouraged to take part in a special live lesson this Restart a Heart Day, helping children learn about simple lifesaving skills and gain confidence in an emergency.
The Restart a Heart Day session is organised by the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) in partnership with North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS).
NWAA are looking for at least 500 primary school pupils to join our special Helicopter Hero live lessons from 10 am on Friday 16 October. Every year, the lifesaving charity is called to around 500 cardiac arrests across the region, and this Restart a Heart Day, they want to turn that number into something positive.
The free online lesson has been designed specifically for primary school children and will introduce them to the basics of CPR in a fun, engaging and easy-to-understand way.
The session will also allow pupils to learn more about the work of emergency services and discover how NWAA brings advanced medical care directly to patients when they need it most. As part of the charity's Helicopter Hero programme, children will gain an insight into the charity's lifesaving work across the North West.
By introducing these skills at a young age, the charity hopes to inspire the next generation of lifesavers and help children feel prepared should they ever find themselves in an emergency.
Danny Daynes, Fundraising Manager at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: "Knowing what to do in an emergency can be a frightening thought, but learning about CPR doesn't have to be complicated. Restart a Heart Day is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn a simple skill that could one day help save a life."
"We want pupils to come away from the session with a better understanding of what happens in an emergency, feeling confident that they can make a difference and inspired by the work of emergency service teams across the region."
The North West Air Ambulance Charity serves more than eight million people across the North West, covering an area from Carlisle to Crewe. The charity receives no government or NHS funding and relies entirely on public donations and fundraising to continue providing its lifesaving service.
