Hereford 2 Southport 0. Match report

hereford

Southport fall to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Hereford on a cold Tuesday night.

Josh Miles came in for his first start and showed some good touches but it was an off night for the travelling Sandgrounders,

In a game of few chances it was the home side who came out on top with two late goals, the first a penalty in the 79th minute after Tony McMillan was adjusged to have brought down the Hereford player. He very nearly saved the resultant spot kick but it just had too much power and crept over the line.

The goal that sealed the game came in the 94th minute after some calamitous defending gave Jarvis the easiest of chances to fire home.

Southport failed to create too many chances. Niall Watson twice went close in the first half on the break and in the second period the best chance of the game fell to Jack Bainbridge who fired narrowly wide.

The first half was a drab affair but we did look like the better side but in the second half Hereford came out very strongly hitting the post and bar before getting the two late goals.

We did look a bit leggy in the second half and everyone will be glad the Saturday Tuesday run of away games has come to an end.

We don’t have a game on Saturday with Banbury involved in FA Trophy action making our next game the Liverpool Senior Cup tie against AFC Liverpool on Tuesday February 14th.

Attendance 1262 with 24 in the Southport away section. Thank you for your support once again.
