HGV badly damaged after smashing into Southport Pier

The driver of an HGV misjudged the height of his vehicle this morning and smashed into Southport Pier. The curtain sides and the rear doors have been badly damaged.

Amazingly, the driver got under the Pier before pulling up by the Marine Drive entrance to the Ocean Plaza. Merseyside Police are at the scene, and the road remains open at the moment.

Damage to the Pier appears to be minimal but will of course be checked.
