Hillside Hopper's Walking Group Pledges to Raise Funds For Southport Soup Kitchen.

Hillside Hopper, a Southport based walking group, are setting out to fundraise for Southport Soup Kitchen on Sunday 2nd April. The walk will set off from The Grasshopper Pub, Hillside, at 11am before taking an hour-long walk through the dunes and back. Once completed, all participants are welcome back to the pub for a celebratory warm drink and breakfast rolls.

The walking group, founded in 2023, meet every first Sunday of the month and have already hosted past events which totalled in a £292 donation across Dogs Trust and Queenscourt Hospice. The group continues to fundraise for charities locally and nationwide.

Southport Soup Kitchen has provided a welcoming place for those in need in the Southport Area for over 20 years. The kitchen dishes out hot meals, food parcels and resources to individuals and families every Wednesday and throughout weekends. This service has become crucial to the community and continues to provide a safe space built by volunteers.

Organiser, Andrew Macaulay commented, “Since starting up Hillside Hoppers in January, we have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community. Our intentions were to encourage people to get outside, take in the beauty of nature all whilst raising essential funds for charities, which need the help more than ever, and we really feel like we are achieving that. It’s heart-warming to see the people of Southport build a relationship with one another and all for a great cause.”

“We’ve chosen Southport Soup Kitchen for April’s walk as we believe that people who are being affected by the cost-of-living crisis need a place where they can feel supported and cared for. It is an important hub for our community, and we must all try our best to keep it as a centre for those who need it.”
