Is Southport Suffering Under Labour's Anti-Business Policies?
Can We All Afford the Cost of Labour?
Figures released today indicate that all is not well in the UK economy with inflation rising to 2.6% in the year to November. This is well ahead of official forecasts which didn’t anticipate inflation at that rate until 2025.
This follows on from earlier news that the UK economy shrank for the second month in a row in October.
Conservative Parliamentary Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, Mike Prendergast said, “Today’s inflation rate announcement, following on from the news about the economy shrinking, is just the latest evidence that Labour’s disastrous economic policies are now having an impact in the real world.”
“Since Labour took office, inflation is rising, wage growth has slowed, unemployment is up and with economic growth stalling we are now on recession watch. All the while, Labour have been talking Britain down; further undermining business and consumer confidence.”
“Labour don’t have a clue how to run our economy, we’ve already seen from the Budget that they see businesses, small and large, as cash cows and plan to milk the private sector for all it’s worth with huge increases in National Insurance and damaging tax changes for farmers and family businesses.”
“This will lead to job losses, increased prices and fewer jobs being created. It’s utter madness from a party who said during the General Election that their number one mission was growth.”
“This is on top of inflationary policies such as awarding huge pay deals to public sector workers, whilst scrapping the Winter Fuel Allowance for some of the most vulnerable pensioners to help pay for it.”
“In Southport, some town centre businesses have reported drops in footfall and trade of up to 70%. Farmers in the Northern Parishes are now worried how they will cope with hugely increased Inheritance Tax bills.
“Our MP’s response has been to support increases in National Insurance for employers by voting for them yesterday and voting against measures to axe the Family Farm Tax.
“Despite repeated promises of support for Southport from central government, we’ve seen very little evidence of it, just empty words.”
“It’s hard enough for local businesses to make a living without anti-business policies from a party who don’t really understand business, wealth creation or the sacrifices that are made by those running their own business. The nearest most Labour MP’s have been to a private businesses is standing on a picket line outside of one.”
“It’s going to be a long few years with Labour in power and businesses in Southport and across the Northern Parishes will be worried what’s next for them under this dreadful Labour government.”
